RC04 PTK - Linguistics and Communication Course for IMG’s (PTK)

Who is this cmourse for?

International Medical Graduates (IMG's), doctors and professionals


Course Duration:

2 x 1.5 hour (1:1) and 2 x 3 hour (1:4)


Aim of the course:

To provide useful communication tools to individuals struggling to communicate freely and fully. We offer suggestions and solutions to empower and enable individuals to grow in confidence, and skills to cope with communication throughout their daily lives.


Course Outline:

The PTK has no set agenda, offering bespoke advice, tools and suggestions to everyone who attends. We aim to provide safe, non-judgemental, productive, useful impactful sessions which provide suggestions and solutions for everyone who attends. The course involves reenacting scenarios which trainees have previously (or are likely) to encounter and find challenging or anticipate may be difficult in the future.


Possible topics we may cover:


  • Learning skills to improve communication with colleagues and patients
  • clarity of speech
  • the importance of paralinguistic features – diction, speed of speech
  • using pauses and silences appropriately
  • tone and volume
  • non-verbal communication – expression, emphasis, body posture
  • the use of idiom and metaphor
  • humour, slang, sarcasm
  • breaking bad news
  • presenting case summaries to colleagues
  • developing and sharing management plans with patients
  • work/home balance
  • cultural challenges
  • socialising
  • relatives and communication with colleagues


Delivered by:

A Medical Communications Specialist/ An advanced roleplay actor/ Medical Educator/ General Practitioner/ Trainer/Communication Coach and Admin.


Attendees:

Minimum numbers to run course 12, maximum multiples of 3 over 12. 

(Attendees will be given a Certificate of Participation)

Courses run throughout the year. Each course of 4 sessions runs over 9 weeks, with attendees able to choose each of their sessions from a selection of dates and times.

Costs:

All courses to be paid in advance, in full.

  • Individual booking total cost £1350 (4 sessions - £337.50 per session per attendee)
  • Group booking total cost £16,200 (based on 12 attendees x 4 sessions)
