RC03 Communicate with Skill and Confidence (CSC)

International Medical Graduates (IMG’s) and health professionals.

Aim of this course:
To provide varying viewpoints in discussions allowing reflection and insight, by exploring perspectives from real-life scenarios. Gaining practical experience to add skills and confidence.
Course Outline:
In this course, we work with each attendee to establish their style and habits of communication and look at the positive and negative impact these may have. Using a mix of breakout room discussions, roleplay actors, lived experience scenarios and personal challenges we explore all aspects of communication from various patient/colleague/relative/professional perspectives.
Possible topics and questions include:
- Do you establish clear lines of communication which are concise and correct for both your patients and colleagues?
- What hinders or stops you from communicating effectively?
- How does being ‘stopped’ look and feel for you?
- How do you speak to yourself?
- Do others feel heard, respected, and involved in conversations with you?
- Do you value the importance of active listening?
- Do you know how to build trust?
- Are you a valued member of the team?
- Are you open and empathetic?
- How effective are you at reading non-verbal communication?
- Are you coherent in sharing plans?
- How do you manage expectations, and boundaries whilst being effective and courteous?
- How do you feel about complaints?
Delivered by:
A Medical Communications Specialist/ An advanced roleplay actor/ Medical Educator/ General Practitioner/ Trainer/Communication Coach and 3 x Roleplay Actors and Admin.

Courses run throughout the year. Each course of 4 sessions runs over 8 weeks, with attendees able to choose each of their sessions from a selection of dates and times.

Costs:
All courses to be paid in advance, in full.
- Individual bookings total cost £1400 (4 sessions - £350 per session per attendee)
- Group booking total cost £16,800 (based on 12 attendees x 4 sessions)

Introductions and establishing how the day will work. (Chat communication is available throughout the day, as well as open chat live in the group) (Divide the group into 3 groups of 4)

General communication – Who are you as a doctor? Personal communication challenges and goals? Identify real experiences individuals want to work on. Shared insight from past IMG stories.
09:45 – 10:15
Explore what is clear, concise and correct communication. Link that to personal experiences. Negative and positive. Choice and consequence.
10:15 – 11:00
Communication toolkit. (Set scenario 1 - to demonstrate communication toolkit- Actors).
